Why the PfMP, and Why Now

Project credentials are everywhere. Portfolio credentials are not, and that is exactly the point.

The Rarest Seat at the Table

The PfMP is one of the least commonly held PMI credentials in the world, and the one that speaks the language executives actually care about: which investments, in what sequence, for what value. Holding it puts you in a small circle, and small circles get shortlisted.

Your Experience Deserves a Credential That Matches It

If you already balance portfolios, chair governance boards, or advise the people who do, generic project credentials undersell you. The PfMP is the formal recognition of work you are already doing, and the exam eligibility rules mean most of your competition cannot even apply.

The Panel Review Filters Out the Unprepared

Before you ever sit the exam, PMI panelists evaluate your written portfolio experience summaries. Most candidates who stall, stall here, not at the exam. Guided application support is built into this program from the opening weeks, because a strong application is half the credential.

Almost Nothing Exists to Prepare You

The Standard for Portfolio Management is principle-based and deliberately concise, and PMI notes itself that parts of the exam content outline go beyond it. Realistic PfMP practice questions barely exist anywhere. That gap is precisely what this program was built to close.

Who This Program Is For

PMI's eligibility bar is high: 96 months of professional business experience plus 48 to 84 months of portfolio management experience, depending on your education. If you clear it, you are exactly who this cohort is built for:

Portfolio Managers and Directors

You run portfolio intake, balancing, and governance today. The PfMP formalizes your authority and future-proofs your seniority as the discipline professionalizes.

PMO and ePMO Leaders

Your PMO owns the portfolio process, and the PfMP is the credential that matches that mandate. It also pairs naturally with the PMI-PMOCP for a complete PMO leadership profile.

Senior Program Leaders Moving Up

You are transitioning from delivering the work to deciding the work. The PfMP marks that transition formally, and this program teaches the judgment shift the exam demands.

Your 8-Week Journey Through the Exam Content Outline

The ECO is the syllabus. Classroom time is allocated in proportion to PMI's published domain weights, The Standard for Portfolio Management (Fourth Edition) is the primary text, and every ECO topic the Standard does not cover in depth gets purpose-built course materials, so you get full exam coverage from this program alone.

Wk 1

Kickoff: The Exam, the Application, and the Road Ahead

The credential, eligibility, the panel review, exam logistics, and the program plan. You leave with your week-by-week study plan, and your homework: the full 170-question Mock Exam 1, taken under real conditions before any teaching, plus an ECO self-assessment.

Wk 2

Portfolio Management Foundations + Mock 1 Debrief

Your baseline scores shape your personal study plan, then the foundations every domain stands on. The application lab begins: draft your first experience summary for written feedback.

Wk 3

Strategic Alignment 路 Domain 1, 25%

The strategy cascade, prioritization models, scenario and financial analysis, and the roadmap. Workshop: build a weighted scoring model on the Northbridge case. Domain quiz follows.

Wk 4

Governance 路 Domain 2, 20%

Where strong candidates lose points: decision rights, escalation, and authorization. Workshop: draft a one-page governance model. Domain quiz follows.

Wk 5

Portfolio Performance 路 Domain 3, 25%

Capacity, balancing, and value management as one discipline. Workshop: KPI design and a rebalancing case. Then the midpoint: full 170-question Mock Exam 2, with 70% of the exam now taught.

Wk 6

Catch-Up Week

No live session. This is your midpoint mock week: four uninterrupted hours under exam conditions, exactly when the three heaviest domains are fresh.

Wk 7

Portfolio Risk Management 路 Domain 4, 15% + Mock 2 Debrief

Your midpoint trend versus baseline, then portfolio risk: balanced and even embraced, not avoided. Workshop: risk register and management reserve recommendation. Domain quiz follows.

Wk 8

Communications 路 Domain 5, 15% + Professional Skills and Ethics

Stakeholders, the aggregate communication strategy, and the ECO-only skills the exam tests through scenarios: negotiation, conflict, ethics. Then your final dress rehearsal: Mock Exam 3.

Wk 9

Exam Strategy and Final Readiness + Mock 3 Review

The full mock dissected pattern by pattern, time management for 240 minutes, the application checklist, and your personal final-two-weeks plan against the 75% readiness signal.

The weekly rhythm

One live session per week of 2 to 2.5 hours with a short break, taught on the Northbridge Bank running case so every workshop builds on the same portfolio. From Week 3, each session opens with a rapid warmup on the prior session and a debrief of your take-home quiz or mock. Five domain quizzes, deliberately harder than the exam, run between sessions, and the three full-length mocks anchor your baseline, midpoint, and final readiness. Study pods of three or four, matched by baseline gaps, meet between sessions, and a standing weekly office hour handles application reviews and question disputes.

Built for an Exam Almost Nobody Prepares You For

PfMP candidates have the Standard, scattered references, and almost no realistic practice. This program was designed backwards from that gap.

The Assessment Engine

600+ original questions in the PfMP's long situational style, every answer and every distractor explained, with balanced keys so test-taking instincts cannot shortcut the content.

  • Three full 170-question mocks: baseline, midpoint, final, no repeated questions
  • Five 20-question domain quizzes, deliberately harder than the exam
  • Live warmups keeping every prior domain fresh
  • Every score tracked per domain against the 75% readiness signal

The Panel Review Application Lab

The panel review rejects candidates before the exam ever gets a chance to. Here the application becomes a coached deliverable, not an afterthought.

  • Application guide with worked, accepted-style examples
  • Draft a real experience summary in Week 2, get written feedback
  • Remaining summaries reviewed in office hours
  • Submission checklist, timed to clear panel review before your exam window

Complete Coverage, Purpose-Built

All 75 ECO knowledge and skill areas mapped to sessions, with study guides built for every topic the Standard leaves thin.

  • Six study guides: financial analysis, decision models, performance, quantitative risk, professional skills and ethics, application
  • Seven portfolio templates you keep, with working formulas
  • The Northbridge Bank case: one organization across every workshop
  • Glossary flashcards and an exam day reference sheet

Portfolio management is not theory to me. I have spent more than 20 years deciding which work gets funded, leading portfolios above $100M across finance, technology, and public services, chairing the governance conversations this exam is built around.

Every session of this program is taught by me personally. I hold the PMI-PMOCP, completed PMI's Train the Trainer program, and judge the PMI PMO Awards. The scenarios we drill are the decisions I have actually had to make.

Know You Are Ready Before You Book the Exam

PfMP candidates usually walk in blind: no realistic practice exists, so the first full-length experience is the real thing. Not here. Three full 170-question mocks under exam conditions give you a baseline, a midpoint trend, and a final dress rehearsal, scored per domain against the readiness signal: 75% in every domain on the final mock. Clear it and you book your exam on evidence; land short in any domain and you get a targeted restudy plan for your final two weeks, not a generic one.

Enrollment, refund, and transfer terms are published in our Enrollment Policies.

Common Questions

Am I eligible for the PfMP?

PMI requires 96 months of professional business experience within the last 15 years, plus 36 to 84 months of unique, non-overlapping portfolio management experience depending on your education level, including PMI's GAC degree provision. There is no education-hours requirement for the PfMP; the gate is experience and the panel review. If you want an honest read on your eligibility before enrolling, book a clarification call and bring your experience summary.

What is the panel review, and how do you help with it?

Before you can schedule the exam, PMI panelists evaluate written summaries of your portfolio management experience against the exam domains. It is the step where most candidacies stall, usually because strong practitioners describe their work in project language rather than portfolio language. The application lab starts in Week 2: you draft a real experience summary, get written feedback within the week, and refine the rest through office hours, so your application clears panel review while you study.

Does this course use official PMI courseware?

PMI does not license exam prep courseware for the PfMP the way it does for some other certifications, so no provider can truthfully offer it. Instead, this program is built directly on PMI's two public sources of truth: the PfMP Examination Content Outline, which is the actual exam syllabus, and The Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition, the primary reference. Every ECO topic the Standard covers thinly gets a purpose-built study guide, and all 75 knowledge and skill areas are mapped to modules so nothing falls through the cracks.

How do I know when I am ready to book the exam?

Your three full-length mocks tell you. Mock 1 sets your per-domain baseline before any teaching, Mock 2 shows your midpoint trend, and Mock 3 is the dress rehearsal. When Mock 3 shows 75% or higher in every domain, the data says book it. Any domain below the line gets a targeted restudy plan for your final two weeks, plus an honest recommendation on timing. PMI's application and exam fees are paid to PMI and are separate from this course.

How long do I keep access to the materials?

Your platform access, including the question bank, mocks, study guides, and templates, runs for the 8 weeks of your cohort plus 60 days after it ends, covering a full exam window after your cohort.

What if I miss a live session?

Cohorts of 10 to 20 make it manageable. Reach out and we will get you caught up individually before the next session, between office hours, your study pod, and 1:1 support, one heavy week at work never derails your preparation, and the built-in catch-up week gives everyone breathing room at the midpoint.

Can I pay in installments?

Yes. Three monthly payments of $449 ($1,347 total) are available at checkout for candidates investing in the credential personally. If your employer reimburses professional development, your enrollment receipt and program documentation cover what a reimbursement request typically needs.

How does this relate to the PMI-PMOCP Accelerator?

They are siblings with different jobs. The PMI-PMOCP Accelerator certifies how you run a PMO that creates value; the PfMP Accelerator certifies how you decide which work the organization funds. Many PMO leaders eventually hold both. If you lead a PMO today and are choosing where to start, book a call and we will tell you straight which one fits your next career move.

Ready to Join One of the Smallest Circles in the Profession?

Cohorts are small by design and the next dates are above. If you want an honest read on your eligibility or your panel review readiness first, book 15 minutes, no pitch.
